Challenge
Our client, as an organisation, is data rich but information poor. They had identified the need for a more rigorous data governance programme.
Peru were asked to help shape Data Governance approaches and help deliver a better approach to the operationalisation of data management capabilities.
Approach
- Our team of data specialists worked with regional, divisional and functional teams to aid data discovery and understand challenges, scale and culture of the organisation.
- Main areas for consideration were the development of a core governance lifecycle, assessment of how data domains were organised, identification of data communities, engagement with global programmes to establish data workstreams and the development of a data sharing and data quality framework.
- Additionally, we introduced a new way of managing data governance through the creation and development of bespoke dashboards to aid communication and measurement.
Outcome
- Clarity of roles and responsibilities for data governance accelerating understanding of data estate
- Data quality improved by describing minimum levels of data quality required and tracking regular quality performance
- Step change in data maturity through educational material, the formation of data communities and the rise in awareness of good data management practices.
